Ordinary is inviting...

We've had some great discussions over here on Main St.  This week we've been talking about having the courage to tell others about what we're doing by raising funds for a trip to Uganda and housing for our friends at Amazing Grace.  

We are all reminded that we're not trying to sell anything. 

We're simply offering an invitation. 

We're inviting you to join us on our journey.

And ours is a pretty ordinary journey.  If you've spent any amount of time with our family you know that we're regular folks.  We have fun, we get sick, we laugh, we cry and we sometimes wonder where we fit.  We have great intentions and often lack follow through. We love and yet we're selfish.  And, like you, we want to live lives of significance- lives that look beyond our own navels.

Hoops for Homes is one of those attempts. Daniel is an ordinary 9-year old kid who loves basketball.  He's not looking to make pro- but he sure likes the game. He wants to see these homes built but gets a little scared sometimes.  Daniel is willing to practice, has a friend serving as his "coach" and is borrowing his neighbor's hoop.  We found a cheap program to make flyers and we're using an iPhone and a free computer program to make videos. Friends, it's all very, very ordinary.  

And that's our invitation.  Join us in doing something ordinary and let's see what comes of it.

57% of Travel Funds!!

We are delighted to share with you that by God's great kindness through your generosity, we have over 57% of the funds that we need to send three Mains to Uganda this winter!

Hoops for Homes Details...

Here are the details that we promised...

We are very excited to invite you to join us for Hoops for Homes! 

H4H is Daniel's creative fundraising effort on behalf of our friends at Amazing Grace Children's Home. 

In 2006 we met Sebur, a Sudanese refugee and orphan being cared for by compassionate East Africans  at Amazing Grace Children's Home in Adjumani, Uganda.  We have gotten to build a relationship with Sebur through a child sponsorship program with 

Lahash International. 

This past year our friends at Amazing Grace were ordered to evacuate their current location by their landlord.  Together, our friends in East Africa and Lahash have purchased four acres that will be the ground for new, permanent homes.  Our goal is to help construct two of these homes (one for boys and one for girls) by the end of this year.

Daniel, along with our family, would like to support the fundraising efforts of Lahash.  This month we're putting on an event called Hoops for Homes! 

Daniel loves basketball and will be putting his skills to the test with a 30 minute Hoop-a-thon!  Would you consider sponsoring Daniel at a specific amount per hoop?  He estimates 140 hoops during that time frame.  At that rate we're talking

$0.05 per hoop = $7.00

$0.10= $14.00

$0.15 = $21.00

$0.25 = $35.00

$0.50 = $70.00

We also invite you to give us a max amount to ease your tension on hoop day. Daniel is committed to practicing every day, so he might surprise us with his numbers!

Almost 50%!!

Friends we are so thankful for your generosity!  This week we've received more generous gifts from YOU and we're almost 50% funded for our winter trip to Uganda! 
That's nearly $4,800!!

So far we've only received notification of monies donated online at Lahash.org.  If you have partnered with us financially by sending a check, we will find that out within the month.

Tonight we were also given two suitcases to travel with and over 50lbs worth of beautiful fabric and batting to share with our East African friends as thank you gifts for their hospitality.

Thank you for spreading the love.  We are feeling very blessed over here on Main St.!!
